I Was In The Womb On Caribou Mountain, 2024
Hand-dyed cotton, paper, paint, carpet, light fixture
I Was In The Womb On Caribou Mountain is a 9 foot tall tent installation that explores themes of loss, second-hand storytelling, and mother-daughter relationships.
This piece is inspired by a trip to Alaska the artist ‘took’ while inside her mother’s womb—who passed away shortly after—due to complications from childbirth. The artist asks participants to enter the structure and view hanging paintings of various Alaskan animals while listening to a surround-sound composition inspired by an imagined womb-scape.
This piece was installed in class on December 8-9, 2024, coinciding with the artist’s birthday.
